One of the simplest and most meaningful ways we can serve the church is also one of the most ordinary: open your home.
For the 2026–27 year, Redeemer will have three Gospel Communities meeting in homes twice each month. These communities are designed to help us grow together through fellowship, discipleship, prayer, and gospel friendship. And one of the greatest needs we have is for families and individuals who are willing to open their homes and serve as Host Homes.
What Is a Host Home?
A Host Home is simply a person or family who provides a welcoming space for a Gospel Community to gather. You don’t necessarily have to lead the group. You don’t need to have all the answers. And you certainly don’t need to have a perfect home!
Your role is simply to open your home and make room for others.
Ideally, a Host Home will have enough space to accommodate approximately 10–15 adults, plus children. Each Gospel Community will determine the specific nights that work best for the group and will gather twice each month.
There will be food, conversation, prayer, laughter, encouragement, and opportunities to talk about how the gospel is shaping our everyday lives.
Why Open Your Home?
Because hospitality is a beautiful way to serve the church.
We live in a culture where people are increasingly isolated. We can have hundreds of Facebook friends and still struggle to have meaningful relationships. We can attend church every Sunday and yet never really know the people sitting around us.
Opening your home changes that.
There is something powerful about sitting around a table together, sharing a meal, hearing someone’s story, praying for one another, laughing with one another, and walking through the ordinary joys and struggles of life together.
This is where gospel friendship begins to take root.
Gospel friendship is more than simply being friendly at church. It is learning to know one another, love one another, encourage one another, bear one another’s burdens, and point one another back to Jesus.
And sometimes the best ministry happens in the living room rather than the church building.
You Don’t Need a Perfect Home
Maybe you’re thinking, Our house isn’t big enough. Or, I’m not very hospitable. Or, I’m not sure what hosting would involve.
Remember: hospitality isn’t about having a perfect home. It’s about making room for people.
Your house might be a little messy. Your kids might be loud. Dinner might not turn out exactly as planned. That’s okay!
The goal isn’t to impress people. The goal is to welcome people.
When we open our homes, we’re saying, “There’s room for you here. We want to know you. We want to walk with you. We want to help you follow Jesus.”
A Simple Way to Serve
You may not be ready to lead a Gospel Community, but perhaps you can open your home.
You may not feel gifted at teaching, but you can set out some food and pull up a chair.
You may not know exactly what to say, but you can listen, pray, encourage, and love.
That’s ministry.
Jesus has welcomed us into His family, and one of the beautiful ways we respond is by welcoming others into our lives.
